Where is the LED display IC hidden? The veteran of dismantling the machine will take you to dig for treasure

Hey! Dear brothers who have just entered the industry, let’s talk about some hardcore things today—​Where is the little ancestor IC chip in the LED display that controls thousands of troops?​​ This thing is much more difficult than finding a partner! Last week, my apprentice removed the newly purchased display screen from eight pieces, but he couldn't find the IC, so anxious that he almost called the police! Don’t panic, let’s search the guy today and pull out this "heart"!


1. Don’t rush to demolish it first! What is IC?

​People the science for Xiaobai​​: IC is an integrated circuit, which is equivalent to the "brain" of the display screen. It does three major things:

  1. Command light beads​: Tell each pixel when and how bright it will be
  2. Processing signals​: Translate the video signal into a language that can be understood by the lamp beads
  3. Life-saving function​: If overheating, the brightness will automatically drop, the voltage will be unstable and the power will be cut off immediately

For example, the IC chips we have to control 38,000 lamp beads for the fence screen we made for the Tokyo Stadium - this workload is even busier than the Spring Festival dispatcher!


2. Four hiding places are raised

  • Close to the signal input port, reducing transmission loss
  • Convenient heat dissipation (our outdoor screen ICs all have graphene thermal conductivity layer)

2. ​​The "Invisible Warrior" behind the light board

How many LED modules are there on the back?​Sesame IC​, the professional name is "driver IC".
Key role​:

  • Transfer the command of the main control IC to each lamp bead
  • Achieve a high refresh rate of 1920Hz (there will be a drag below this number)

Industry cold knowledge​: Our dance floor tiles screens have 8 driver ICs hidden in each module, which can withstand 200 kilograms of man dancing!


3. ​​The "voltage stabilization master" in the power supply​

Important functions​:

  • Convert 220V voltage to 5V safe voltage
  • Intelligent power adjustment (our screen saves 30% of power than ordinary products, rely on it)

4. ​​Receive the "signal translator" in the card

3. Five tough tricks for experts to choose ICs

1. Check the working temperature

  • Ordinary IC: -20℃~60℃
  • Military-grade IC: -40℃~85℃ (standard for our outdoor screen series)

​Test operation​: The tough guy is the one who can still work normally with a hot air gun!

2. Number of pins

  • Low-end IC: 16 feet
  • High-end IC: 48 or above (can control more lamp beads)

Industry Secrets​: Our transparent screen IC has 64 feet, which is even more compact than centipede legs!

3. Test the refresh rate

  • Strike the screen on the phone in slow motion, and black bars appear, which means that the refresh rate is not enough
  • Real 1920Hz refresh rate (like our screen) is as smooth as silky

4. IC failure? These symptoms are revealed at a glance

  1. "Ghosts"
    Some areas have abnormal color → Drive IC pin desoldering
