Where should the LED display receiving card be connected?

2025-09-09 122

When I first entered the industry, I squatted at the installation site and stared at the receiving card in a daze. It is probably exactly the same as your anxiety when searching for "How to quickly install LED devices for beginners". To be honest, if the connection position of this thing is wrong, the screen can be torn, and the control card will be burned out at the worst - don't ask me how I know, the painful lessons of burning three cards back then are still vivid in my mind.

Let me tell you a real case first. A shopping mall installed a large LED screen before opening, and the worker tied the receiving card directly to the heat sink. As a result, the high temperature caused abnormal signal transmission. On the day of opening, the large screen flashed into a light ball in the discotheque. Later, when I took it apart, I found that the plastic shell of the receiving card was melted and deformed. so The heat dissipation environment is the first consideration for the installation location of the receiving card. , let's talk about this in detail later.

Where should the LED display receiving card be connected?

There are four common installation methods on the market now:

  1. Inside the box (more than 3cm of heat dissipation space is required)
  2. Back suspension type of screen body (must be equipped with shock-proof bracket)
  3. Independent control cabinet centralized (suitable for ultra-large-area display)
  4. Receive card split type (one for every 8-12 boxes)

The key point is here. To determine whether the installation location is reliable, we need to look at these three indicators:
● Is the ambient temperature below 45 years?℃
● Is the signal transmission distance more than 50 meters
● Can you quickly plug and unplug the network cable during daily maintenance?

For example, the receiving card of the fence screen of the stadium must be installed in a waterproof box, but some manufacturers directly install it naked in order to save trouble. Last year, a stadium had a short circuit after heavy rain, resulting in a black screen in the half-time. Later, inspections found that although the box is IP65 protection, there was no glue-filled seal at the receiving card interface.

The five taboos when connecting must be highlighted:

  1. Power cord and signal cord are parallel to each other (electromagnetic interference will make you doubt your life)
  2. Receive card close to the power drive (temperature difference will produce condensate)
  3. More than 8 receiving cards are cascading (the signal is so low that my mother doesn't recognize him)
  4. Use unshielded network cables (the snowflakes on the screen are more exaggerated than the TV without signal)
  5. The fixing screws are too tight (heat expansion and contraction will break the circuit board)

Here is a lesson to be taught. When installing a theater with a background screen, the worker installed the receiving card at the bottom of the lifting rack. As a result, every time the stage mechanical lifts, the network cable connector is pulled away. Later, it was changed to a magnetic quick disassembly interface to solve the problem. So, Dynamically used screens must take into account mechanical motion factors。

Someone may ask: "How to configure the parameters of the receiving card so that there will be no errors? "Remember this universal formula:
(Horizontal pixel points ÷ Received cassette load width) × (Vertical pixel points ÷ Received cassette load height) = The actual number of cards required to be received
For example, if a screen with a resolution of 3840×2160, it is necessary to use a receiving card with a load of 2560×1440, and it must be split into 2 rows and 2 columns, 4 cards in total. However, it is recommended to leave a 20% margin in actual operation, and do not push the receiving card to the performance limit.

When debugging, you will encounter a screen exception, do these three checks first:

  • Use the back of your hand to stick the surface of the card to make it hot or not (the ideal temperature is 40-55℃)
  • Do you hear if there is a "click" sound of unplugging the network cable (virtual connection is the most common fault)
  • Take a mobile phone to see if there is a black scan line (it is particularly obvious when the refresh rate is insufficient)

When it comes to maintenance, don't believe in the nonsense of "installing it without worrying". Coastal projects must be disassembled and cleaned every six months. In the north, moisture-proof bags must be stuffed into the card slot in winter. A customer installed a screen in Qingdao. He had not cleaned the receiving card for two years. He opened it and found that the cockroaches had made a nest inside, and the circuit board was corroded by acid secretions.

Editor's opinion: The receiving card is the central nerve of the LED screen. If you choose the right position, you can save three years of maintenance costs. Remember to focus on these three details when installing next time - whether the heat dissipation channel is unobstructed, whether there is a redundant design for the signal line, and whether secondary protection is performed at the interface. If you really can't make sure, it's right to choose manufacturers who dare to spread the circuit design drawings for you to see. After all, real gold is not afraid of fire.
