Two days ago, the owner of the milk tea shop, Wang, pulled me and asked, "Why is the newly installed advertising screen next door half thinner than my house? Didn't it be better to use LEDs?" This question confused me - today we broke it apart and explained clearly. What are the key points of the difference between these two display screens that look like relatives?

Lighting principle: The difference between light bulb and fireflies

LCD is a super complex "sandwich" that needs to be illuminated with a backlight plate. Just like when you shine a colored glass with a flashlight, the light has to pass through the liquid crystal layer and the seven or eight layers of the filter. LED screens are directly thousands of "small light bulbs" that will shine on their own, and each pixel is an independent luminous body. This is like LCD is a projector and LED is a star full of stars. Which one do you think is more power-saving?

For example, if the transparent display cabinets in shopping malls with a transmittance of 86% cannot emit light at all with LCD, they must be equipped with LEDs. Last year, the fenced screen installed in a stadium in Tokyo looked like an ordinary railing during the day, and turned into a high-definition billboard at night. This is a job that LCD can't do.


Thickness showdown: The battle between tablets and paper

Because LCD needs to be equipped with a backlight module, the thinnest starts at 3 cm. This is a smart adjustment ability. LCD can't learn this ability.

Tested data: Under direct noon sunlight, the effective visual distance of the LCD screen is only one-third of that of the LED. The curved advertising screen installed in Singapore last year was tested. During the test, I found that the details of the screen could be seen clearly between 200 meters. This is the power of high brightness.


Repair cost: light bulb replacement and window replacement

As long as the inner screen of the LCD screen is broken, it will basically be declared scrapped. The modular design of LED screens is much smarter, and it will change which lamp bead is broken. But be careful, for example, outdoor screen with IP65 protection, don’t take away the shell by yourself. Once the waterproof glue is damaged, you can buy half a new screen for repair.

From ski resorts with minus 40 degrees Celsius to swimming pools with 90% humidity, they can withstand all kinds of extreme environments. Especially for a stage rental screen that needs to be quickly disassembled and installed, if you use a magnesium alloy box, two workers can build the entire background wall in 20 minutes.

There is an unusual sense: nowadays, high-end conference rooms like to use LEDs. Why? Because when having a video conference, the face will not turn blue on the LED screen, and the skin color is much more reproductive than LCD.


Power consumption duel: Oil Tiger and New Energy

A 55-inch LCD consumes at least 200 watts of electricity per hour, and LEDs of the same size can be controlled within 80 watts. What's even more amazing is the intelligent brightness adjustment function, such as the interest rate screen in the bank, which will automatically drop to 30% brightness when there is no one, and the electricity bill saved in a year is enough to pay three months of property fees.

Actual test comparison: After a shopping mall replaced 100 LCD advertising screen with LED, the monthly electricity bill was directly reduced from 180,000 to 60,000. After all, the money saved in two years is enough to install another 50 yuan in new screens.

It is affordable to choose LCD when watching TV at home, and LED must be used for commercial display. Now some manufacturers have made LED screens cheaper than LCDs, especially those large manufacturers with monthly output of tens of thousands of square meters, with large-scale production that has pushed the cost to a close. Next time you want to install a screen, first think about whether you want to be a flower in the greenhouse or a tough guy who can compete for war. This choice is much more interesting than choosing a mobile phone!
