Do newbies who are new to LED displays often encounter this situation? The power cord was connected, but the screen looked like a black brick. After a long time of debugging, the picture always had a strange red and blue ghost. At this time, you will find that the parameter settings hidden in the display are even harder to figure out than the girlfriend's thoughts. Don't worry, today we will explore where these key parameters are hidden.

​1. Two entry points for parameter settings
Just like when opening a safe, you need to find the correct knob, and adjusting the parameters, you have to find the operating interface. There are two main methods now: hardware debugging and software control. What many novices are prone to ignore is that some display screen control cards actually come with physical buttons. Pressing the SET button for 3 seconds can enter the basic parameter menu. However, the more commonly used control software, such as the common LED display control system, can complete fine adjustments on the computer.

Here is a tip: you must confirm the display size before setting parameters. I have seen someone set a 5-meter-long outdoor screen into a small screen in the conference room, and the whole picture looks like a compressed spring. Remember to deduct the size of the metal frame when measuring. For example, the actual display area is 4.8 meters and the frame takes up 20 cm, and the parameters must be set to 4.6 meters.

​2. Three life gates for parameter settings

  1. Basic parameters​The ID card equivalent to the display screen, including basic information such as size (length x width), network address, and refresh frequency. A customer once set the 4K screen of 3840x2160 to 1920x1080, but the picture was as if it was mosaic.

  2. Core parameters​is the key to determining life and death. If you set the wrong settings here, you may directly burn the screen. Especially the two options of OE polarity and data polarity are the same as the positive and negative poles of a mobile phone charger. If the reverse happens, something big will happen. There was a case last year when the construction team set the static scan to a dynamic scan, and 18 modules were burned instantly when powered on.

  3. Auxiliary parameters​Just like the personalized outfit of the display, it includes value-added functions such as brightness curve and timing switch-on and shutdown. The brightness of the outdoor advertising screen is recommended to maintain above 4000nit during the day and automatically drop to 800nit at night, which is both power-saving and not dazzling.

​3. Practical process of parameter setting
Let’s take the most common full-color screen as an example and walk the process step by step:

  1. Power on the display screen first, and pay attention to whether the power indicator light flashes regularly
  2. Connect the control card to the computer using a network cable. At this time, the computer may prompt you to discover new hardware.
  3. Open the control software and find the corresponding control card IP address in the device list
  4. Enter the parameter setting interface, here we need to focus on checking three places:
    • Physical size of the display screen (actual display area after deducting the border)
    • Pixel point arrangement order (common ones include snake traces and straight line scanning)
    • Grayscale level (16bit indoor screen and 14bit outdoor screen)

One easy pitfall is the refresh rate setting. The dual-color screen is set to 60Hz, but if the full-color screen is lower than 180Hz, it will cause annoying water ripples when shooting with a mobile phone. When we make plans for commercial complexes, we usually lock the refresh rate above 1920Hz.

Q: What happens if the parameters are set incorrectly?
A: At the least, the waste will be killed, and at the worst, the component will be burned. Therefore, be sure to confirm the module type before debugging, and this information is usually printed next to the driver chip.

Q: Is smart configuration really reliable?
A: The current control system has intelligent wizards that can automatically recognize 80% of the conventional parameters. However, when encountering special boxes, you still have to manually debug it. For example, the pixel distribution of arc screens is completely different from that of flat screens.

Q: How to verify whether the parameters are correct?
B: I’ll give you a test formula - "Three Looks and Three Tests": Check whether the color transition is smooth, whether there are sawtooths at the edges of the text, whether the dynamic picture is smooth; measure the screen temperature, measure voltage fluctuations, and measure signal delay. Professional ones can use a color analyzer to measure the color gamut coverage. Ordinary users can check the brightness uniformity by taking a pure white picture.

Don't rush to finish the work after debugging, let the screen run continuously for 48 hours. Last month, there was a large shopping mall screen, which performed perfectly in the first 24 hours. As a result, the color block shift suddenly occurred during the high temperature period at noon the next day. Later, it was found that the temperature compensation parameters were not set well.
