Hey, many friends have been asking about this recently - they obviously wanted to replace the car screen themselves, but they were confused after taking apart the center console. Those densely packed strands are like a ball of wool that cannot be sorted out. Last week, a buddy short-circuited the reversing camera, and the repair cost cost more than 800 yuan. We really can’t mess with this matter, let’s break it down today.
Let’s first talk about the three most common hidden line locations. Many novices think that wiring directly behind the screen is enough. In fact, the current car system has been upgraded a long time ago. Main control harness Most of them are hidden near the fuse box under the steering wheel. You have to remove the left decorative panel first.; Video signal cable Likes to hide in the cable trough at the bottom of the water cup holder; The most terrible thing is power cord , some models actually have it tucked into the B-pillar interior panel. The last time I helped someone find the wiring, I found it after dismantling half of the door interior.
Here is some data for you to feel: 63% of circuit failures caused by vehicle electronic modifications in 2022 are caused by wrong wiring. Especially for new models with CAN bus, any broken line may trigger an alarm in the body control system. I saw a case two days ago. A car owner installed a screen and burned the automatic headlight module. The repair bill soared to 4,200.
Here comes the key point: How different are the wiring harness distributions of models of different years?
One detail that is easily overlooked is the screen stand. Nowadays, many LED LCD screens use magnesium-aluminum alloy brackets, which have built-in electromagnetic shielding function. If you violently disassemble and bend the bracket, the screen refresh rate will immediately drop from 1920Hz to 120Hz, and the screen smear will be clearly visible.
Having said this, someone must ask: "Why are my wires always connected incorrectly?" " I really can't blame my handicap entirely for this. Now there are five or six types of interfaces for vehicle display screens: LVDS interface、FPD-LinkⅢ、HDMI embedded version ...What’s even more confusing is that some interfaces look similar, but the pin definitions are completely opposite. Last year, a repair shop connected the video cable to the reversing radar port, and the screen flashed like snowflakes crazily when the reverse gear was engaged.
Practical advice for novices:
Suddenly I remembered something: some modification shops save trouble and draw power directly from the cigarette lighter. It is convenient in the short term, but did you know that the peak power consumption of a car screen can reach 120W? Doing so can burn the fuse at worst, or cause the circuit to overheat. The more professional approach is to take the ACC power line and add a relay control.
Finally, a little trivia: Nowadays, the screen wiring harnesses of high-end models are equipped with temperature sensing functions. When it detects that the wire temperature exceeds 85°C, it will automatically reduce the screen brightness to protect the circuit. So if you find that the screen suddenly goes dark, don't rush to curse, there may be a problem with your wiring.
Editor's point of view: This is not to dampen everyone's enthusiasm for doing things, but when it comes to vehicle circuits, it is still recommended to find a professional master to operate it. Don't look at the online tutorials to make it easy to take pictures. People may be hiding twenty years of modification experience and not telling you. After all, when it comes to safety, saving a small amount of money may lead to big losses.
